Automotive enthusiasts in New Zealand were treated to a special event as the first factory-built right-hand drive Corvette Z06 was unveiled in Auckland this week.

The unveiling by GMSV gave us the opportunity to get up close and better understand the features and capabilities specific to the 2024 Z06.

While we have yet to drive it, the specifications of the Z06 suggest this will be a deeply impressive car and at it’s heart, or course, is all American muscle.

In comparison to the standard Corvette's 369kW V8 engine and 637Nm of torque, the Z06 distinguishes itself with a formidable 499kW (670 horsepower) and 623Nm of torque generated by its all-new 5.5-litre V8 powertrain.

With that output, the Z06 can claim the title of most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 in a production car to date and GM USA state a 0-60mph time of 2.6 seconds.

The engine's flat-plane crankshaft design enables it to rev up to an impressive 8,600 rpm while all that power is harnessed through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with a specific shorter final drive ratio.

Compared to the standard Stingray, the Z06 boasts larger front and rear Brembo rotors, measuring 14.6 inches (370mm) and 15 inches (380mm) in diameter, respectively. Additionally, the Z06 comes equipped with six-piston front callipers, providing enhanced stopping performance compared to the four-piston callipers found on the Stingray.

In terms of design, the Z06 showcases a wider stance, unique front and rear fascias, and the 20-inch front and 21-inch rear forged aluminium ‘spider’ wheels are the ever seen on a production Corvette.

Stepping inside the cabin, drivers will find a tech-laden and driver-focused cockpit that provides quick and concise access to all vehicle-related information and there’s no shortage of luxurious features including a carbon fibre steering wheel and shift paddles, sueded microfibre on the upper interior trim, leather-wrapped interior door panels and instrument panel, as well as GT2 bucket seats with Napa leather upholstery and carbon fibre garnish.

Additionally, the Z06 offers the optional Z07 Performance Package, which includes a carbon fibre aero package, larger front splitter, front-corner dive planes, carbon fibre rear wing, underbody strakes for enhanced downforce, Michelin Sport Cup 2 R ZP tires, and a larger Brembo carbon ceramic brake system. Carbon fibre wheels are also available, reducing unsprung mass by 18.6kg.

These features combine to deliver an extraordinary driving experience and cement the Corvette Z06's status as a true performance car, capable of hardcore track use.

Greg Rowe, Director of GM Specialty Vehicles, expressed his excitement about the new Z06 and its standard offerings. "This new Z06 is indicative of what Corvette enthusiasts can expect from a MY24 Z06, as we will be offering 3LZ trim as standard," said Rowe.

Pricing details for the new Corvette Z06 are expected to be released later this month, information regarding dealership allocation and arrival timing will be announced shortly after.
